James Hamilton-Martin

I have been living in London all my life, realising my passion for design at the University of Plymouth. Since then I have expanded my experience into web development, print design, flash design, 3d modeling, video production and motion graphics.

My passion for design spills into my hobby, BMXing. It’s not a sport that is associated with design but I try to incorporate it in my web blog and videos that I produce.

I have worked in London for 5 years with experience in corporate and agency style design. In my personal time I create BMX videos for sponsors to promote the riders for their brands.

I also enjoy long walks on the beach and my star sign is Taurus.

Typography Within Video

It’s something that we use every day. It’s part of our way of life. It can even determine the way we view things. Typography is a big part of our culture and can determine the way we interact on a daily basis. Every day applications ask for good typography, to the point that half the time, we won’t even realize it because it’s incorporated into our day-to-day life.

I’m not going to go into the do’s or don’ts of typography, or the ways that things should or shouldn’t be represented. What I want to touch upon is the way in which typography is used within video.

Etnies Signing & Demo Edit

On 11th August, the Etnies team came to Kingston as part of their European tour. After a signing at the Etnies store on Fife Road, the team headed to give the crowd a demo of their moves. Despite the rain as the demo started, we were treated to an awesome show.

Seb Yates Trails Edit

Seb Yates is an awesome trails rider and an all round nice guy. He hasn’t had much coverage so i thought i would hook him up with an edit of him riding his local trails. The last trick is crazy.. but doing it on that huge jump is just nuts!

Gumball 3000 powered by Veho™ Helmet Cam

Main Edit:

Trailer edit:

We have been working with Veho™ and Gumball 3000 for a while now. We created a trailer (under the main edit) which was put out a week before the main edit came out. Its a very different edit to my normal ones as i didn’t have much control over the shots as the majority of it was on-board footage, but overall i think it came out quite well!

Riders: Ben Harvey, Ollie Cronan, Craig Teague, Ky Sproll, Sam Collisson, James Hamilton-Martin, and Michael Loekito

The Pool | Nike 6.0

When someone says the words ‘The Pool’ normally you would think of water, diving, swimming and other such water activities. Well ever since i went to The Nike Pool in Dagenham those words have never been the same. Nike has done a lot of good things for BMX in the last couple of years, one of which was the event held in Dagenham leisure center. They turned a swimming pool that had recently become out of use and derelict into one of the most amazing skateparks i have had the pleasure to ride. The project was called 30 days in Dagenham as the park was only open for 30 days before the whole building (along with the skatepark) had to be demolished. In those 30 days i got to ride the park with some of the guys from the Zeal BMX team. This is an edit from one of those days, something i will never forget. Enjoy.
